About Gourmet
Gourmet exists to elevate the musical life of South African society by cultivating a culture in which musicians—especially beat-makers and young creators—pursue excellence not merely for fame or profit, valuable as these may be, but for the deeper purpose of producing high-quality, meaningful art. We believe in music that uplifts, that stirs both heart and mind, and that opens the listener to an experience of the truly divine and awe-inspiring.
In essence, Gourmet seeks to help build a world where music nourishes, inspires, and forms character—a world where musical literacy and artistic depth become the norm rather than the exception.

How we do
Gourmet Music is built on a simple conviction: theory and technique exist to empower real creative expression. True musical excellence comes from mastering both the language and the craft of musicianship. Our work is to guide and equip ambitious young musicians and beat-makers—especially those working in contemporary urban genres—with the theoretical understanding and practical tools they need to create with confidence, depth, and intention.

About the Founder
Diale Mabitsela is a South African composer and educator whose work bridges contemporary urban music with modern art-music traditions. Raised in Midrand, he completed an MPhil in Music Composition at the University of Oxford, where his research explored musical minimalism alongside the intersections between experimental classical music and South African genres such as kwaito and afro-house. This distinctive blend of influences continues to define his creative voice.
Alongside his compositional practice, Diale has taught at the University of the Witwatersrand, UNISA, and St Benedict’s College, where his deep interest in meaning, purpose, and personal excellence has shaped his approach to education. These same values drive his wider mission: to help people recognise their capacity for excellence and to guide them toward greater clarity, confidence, and purpose.
He has also served as chairperson and treasurer of NewMusicSA, playing a key role in facilitating the creation of new and experimental music in South Africa, including the landmark centennial World New Music Days festival – the first time this global event was hosted on African soil.
Today, through Gourmet Music, Diale is dedicated to raising the standard of musical literacy and artistic depth across the South African urban music scene, placing an emphasis on the next generation of beat-makers and creators who seek to create art that is both meaningful and meticulously crafted.
